Earlier Houses: 14th century courtyard walls and towers remain from an earlier fortified manor house.
House & Family History: The de Grey family are listed in the Doomsday Book. In the 14th century the 1st Lord de Grey crenellated the manor house (now in ruins). In 1538, during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the current house and surrounding estate were given by Henry VIII to his friend, Francis Knollys. Elizabeth I was Knollys's cousin; she visited Greys in 1574 and 1576. The House was rebuilt in the 16th century. Through succeeding marriages, Greys Court passed to the Stapleton family, who lived at the house until 1935. There were various alterations and additions made between the 17th and 19th centuries.
