House & Family History: The British Army occupied Greencroft Hall between 1939 and 1945. The house was abandoned after the army left and quickly decayed; Greencroft's fittings were sold in 1954, including white marble Adam-style fireplaces. The house was demolished in 1960.
Garden & Outbuildings: The Gothic arch, estate cottages, Greencroft Tower, and the stableblock were built in the 18th century. The stableblock is the today the Beamish Museum visitor center.
