House & Family History: The area around Glenborrodale is named for a nomadic Viking, Borrodale, who settled in this area with his tribe. The current Glenborrodale Castle was built 1898-1900 for Charles Duneill Rudd, who purchased the Estate and became Laird of Ardnamurchan. Rudd made his fortune in the diamond mines of South Africa with the De Beers Mining Company; according to local legend, before he died Rudd buried a large diamond somewhere in the grounds.
Garden & Outbuildings: The 300-year-old Stables are extant.
