    House & Family History: The Gatacres were an old recusant Shropshire family who took their surname from the lands they owned. The family remained seated here until 1987, when David Gatacre sold the house and 150 acres. During World War II the Gatacre Estate housed over 1,300 soldiers as part of a United States Army summer camp.

    Collections: The circa 1550-60 Gatacre Jewel was sold to the Victoria & Albert Museum at Sotheby's on December 10, 1981, for £13,200. The enameled gold jewel features an amethyst cameo of Medusa set with three hanging pearls.
