Worked with Harold Peto in the firm of George & Peto between 1876 to 1890 and with Alfred Yeates and in the firm of George & Yeates from 1893. George was Knighted in 1911 and retired from practice in 1919.

Notes: Most famous as the designer of the Houses of Parliament, for which his design won first place in 1836. Barry was mostly self-educated and gained recognition with his design for the Travellers Club, London. His style combined Italianate with Victorian architecture. amous for his saying "Work without interruption was relaxation." He designed the layout and fountains for Trafalgar Square in 1840 (the fountains were removed in 1948 and taken to Ottawa, Canada). Barry was succeeded by his son, Charles Barry Jr. (1823-1900).
