Earlier Houses: The ruins of the 12th century Dinefwr Castle (see "Images" section), today owned by Dyfed Wildlife Trust, are near the current house. The castle was replaced in the 16th century by a Tudor house, which was itself demolished in 17th century, when the current house was built.

House & Family History: The former seat of the Rice family, barons Dynevor, Newton House was built in 1660. The House was remodeled between 1760 and 1780, and again in 1852 for the 4th Baron Dynevor. The National Trust acquired the Park in the 1980s and Newton House in 1990.
Garden & Outbuildings: Plas Dinefwr has a fine 18th century landscape by George Rice (with advice from Capability Brown) with a Fountain Garden, and a Deer Park with the famous Dinefwr White Park cattle in residence.
