An 1835 engraving of the ruins of the House from "Durham and Northumberland Illustrated"
Earlier Houses: There was an earlier pele tower on, or near, the site of the 15th century Dilston Castle. The Castle was, in turn, incorporated into the 17th century house. This last house was demolished in the 18th century, but ruins of the 15th century castle remain.
