House & Family History: In 1957 Digswell became the home of the Digswell Arts Trust, which leased the House to provide accommodation and studios for artists at a modest rent. The first artists moved in at the end of 1957, and, over the next 27 years, almost 150 were accommodated at Digswell House. Some, including John Brunsdon, Michael Andrews, Hans Coper, Ralph Brown, James Butler, Lol Coxhill, Liz Fritsch, Peter Collingwood, and John Mills become internationally famous. By the early 1980s the Trust was financially unable to continue at Digswell House, which was sold and redeveloped and converted into flats.
