House & Family History: In 1928 the Cowley Estate was broken up and sold. During World War II the house was leased to Cheltenham Ladies' College. In 1946 Gloucestershire County Council purchased Cowley Manor and approximately 600 acres and used it as a conference center. In the late 20th century the house was used as a nursing home; by the early 21st century Cowley Manor had been reborn as a hotel.
