Collyweston Palace (Palace of Collyweston) (Collyweston House)

  • House & Family History: Margaret Tudor, daughter of Henry VII, visited Collyweston with her father in 1503 enroute to meet her new husband, James IV of Scotland. Later, Edward VI granted Collyweston to his half-sister, Princess Elizabeth (later Elizabeth I). Probably most famous today as the home of Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII, the palace was demolished in the 17th century and its location soon forgotten. In 2023, after a five-year search, a group of amateur historians and archeologists discovered the site of the palace. Located in the garden of a private house, the buried remains of Collyweston were found using ground-penetrating radar and geophysical surveys.
