Cokethorpe Park

  • Built / Designed For: Sir Simon Harcourt, later 1st Viscount Harcourt.

    House & Family History: Cokethorpe was built in 1709 for Sir Simon Harcourt of Stanton Harcourt. In 1730 the House was extended to the rear with the addition of the East Wing; in 1780 Cokethorpe was refronted, leaving the South Facade as the only intact portion of the original house. In 1908 Cokethorpe was purchased by Maximdean Western, a director of the East India Company; in 1913 the interiors were remodeled. In 1955 Cokethorpe became a school, which it remains today.
