Charford Manor (North Charford Manor House)

  • House & Family History: In 1880 Charford Manor was converted to Downton Agricultural College (probably inspired by the nearby Wiltshire village of Downton), a purpose it served until 1906. The college was founded by Charford's owner, Professor John Wrightson, who was Julian Fellowes's great grandfather. It was this college that inspired Fellowes in the naming of his "Downton Abbey" television series.
