The entrance facade
House & Family History: One of the most perfect Georgian manor houses in England, Casterne was the seat of the Hurt family from the mid-16th century until the early 21st century. The original great E-shaped manor house was rebuilt by Nicholas Hurt circa 1740, so it's to him that we owe the beautiful entrance facade, which looks across the Manifold Valley. The interior of the house is an extremely well-preserved example of the home of an 18th century bachelor gentleman. (We are very grateful to Oliver Gerrish for this history of Casterne).
