Cams Hall

  • Earlier Houses: There was at least one earlier house on the site of the current house.

House & Family History: For many centuries this was one of Fareham's most stately residences; a manor house is recorded at Cams Hall as as early as the 13th century. In the late 17th century a new building was erected on the estate; in the 1770s the House was altered and enlarged for the Carnac family; in 1781 it was purchased by the Delme family. The Delmes moved from Place House (now Titchfield Abbey) in Fareham to occupy the Cams Estate; they subsequently spent a small fortune on rebuilding and enlarging the House. When the Delme family's last male heir died, the Cams Hall Estate was sold to Montague Foster and the House was leased to tenants. It was sold again in 1895, followed by several more owners, finally being used by the Admiralty during World War II. During the 1950s a mobile home park was started and the land was farmed by the Hill family. During this period the Estate buildings fell into disrepair and the House became very run down. When a new owner was killed in a plane crash, Strand Harbor Securities took over the Estate and extensive renovation took place.
