House & Family History: Byfleet is a small manor house situated on a private inland island in a suburb of Woking. The house, once a country seat of Queen Anne of Denmark (wife of James I), became famous as the home of the Dowager Countess in the "Downton Abbey" TV series. In 2013 there was additional press focus on Byfleet Manor, when a small secret room was discovered between two floors. The purpose of the seven-foot-square room is unknown; it may have been a priest hole, a secret hiding place, or a storage space for valuables. In 2015 the house, together with 20 acres, was listed for sale for £3.95 million.
Garden & Outbuildings: The famous Brooklands Motor Circuit (opened in 1907) is nearby.
