Butleigh Court

  • Earlier Houses: The current house replaced an earlier house on the site.

House & Family History: Butleigh is a mock-Tudor style house built in 1845 and designed by J.C. Buckler.

Collections: The Butleigh Salt, a silver gilt salt cellar of 1606-07, is today in the collection of the Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Birmingham, where it entered the collection in 1949. Very few architectural salts survive from the early 17th century and the Butleigh Salt, in the shape of a small four-columned shrine, is exceptional.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The Butleigh Cricket Club is situated next to the House.
