Brockhampton Court

  • House & Family History: Brockhampton incorporates the core of a rectory of circa 1759, which was substantially obscured and rebuilt in 1879 by Middleton and Sars, and extended in 1893 by George Faulkner Armitage of Manchester, when it was purchased by Eben Dyer Jordan, who co-founded the Boston, Massachusetts, department store Jordan, Marsh & Co. Mr. Jordan presented Brockhampton to his daughter, Alice Jordan, on her 1885 marriage to Colonel A.W. Foster. In 1947 Brockhampton became a hotel. In 1996 the house, together with eight acres, was purchased by Dr. and Mrs. C.J. Allen, who converted Brockhampton into a care home and built a new wing in a sympathetic style.

  • Chapel & Church: The Grade I-listed All Saints' Church was built between 1901 and 1902 to the designs of William Lethaby. The church, commissioned by Alice Foster in memory of her parents, Eben and Julia Jordan of Boston, Massachusetts, is considered a masterpiece of the Arts & Crafts style.
