Brandenburgh House

  • House & Family History: In the late 18th century Brandenburgh House became a seat of Christian Frederick Charles Alexander, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach, who redecorated the interiors in a rich and lavish style and made the House a destination for high society gatherings. Brandenburgh House was demolished in 1821; the site of the former house is occupied today by an industrial park. In 1822 John Forster purchased fittings from Brandenburgh, including an open-well stone staircase with a wrought iron anthemion pattern balustrade. The staircase was installed at Warkworth House in Northumberland, where it remains today as part of the Warkworth House Hotel.
