Bothal Castle

  • House & Family History: The big gatehouse tower, the oldest surviving part of the castle, was built circa 1343 by Robert Bertram soon after he obtained a license to crenellate. In 1830-31 the gatehouse was restored; the west wing was added circa 1858 and then extended in 1909.
