Bledisloe House (Bledisloe Lodge) (Coates Manor)

  • Earlier Houses: There was at least one earlier house on the site of the current house.

House & Family History: Stonework from the upper stories of Hams Hall, Warwickshire (which was demolished in 1920), was incorporated into the 1919-21 rebuilding of Bledisloe. In the late 1920s Bernard Firth moved Georgian chimneypieces from Clifton Maybank House (another of his seats) to Bledisloe. After Mrs. Firth died in 1949 the house was sold to the Royal Agricultural College for use as student accommodation. The college sold the house in 1952, after which Bledisloe become home to a management college. In 1988 the house was converted back into a private home. The freehold for Bledisloe was for sale in April of 2001 for £3.25 million. In late 2019, after significant restoration, the house, together with 39 acres, was listed for sale for £9,250,000.
