Birkhall

  • Built / Designed For: Captain Charles Gordon

    House & Family History: In 1849 Prince Albert purchased the Birkhall Estate from Michael Francis Gordon, 15th Laird of Abergeldie; this was preceded by Albert taking a 40-year lease (in 1848), also from the Gordon family, on the Abergeldie Estate, primarily because Abergeldie was close to Balmoral and Birkhall and provided good game. Birkhall was later incorporated into the Balmoral Estate.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The Birkhall Estate today stands at approximately 6,500 acres.
