Benmore House

  • Earlier Houses: There was an earlier house on the site that was replaced by the current house in the mid-19th century.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: In 1924 Harry George Younger gifted Benmore to the nation for science and education purposes; the Forestry Commission took over most of the woodlands, while the gardens came into the custodianship of Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. The 120-acre Benmore Botanic Garden is renowned for its collections of Asian, Himalayan, and North and South America plants (particularly rhododendrons) set in a mountain landscape.
