Belleisle House

  • House & Family History: In 2012 Belleisle House, which had been owned by the local council since 1926, was sold for £300,000 to John Campbell, who planned to create Belleisle Mansion Hotel & Spa, one of Scotland's top luxury hotels; however, a 2019 fire (caused by a worker's blowtorch that accidentally set fire to the roof) gutted the house. Somewhat ironically, South Ayrshire Council were in the midst exercising their option to repurchase the the house from Mr. Campbell when the fire broke out. The remains of Belleisle are still in the ownership of the council, who are looking for partners to restore the house.
