Barford House

  • House & Family History: In the early 20th century, during the ownership of the Graham family, Evelyn Waugh was a frequent visitor to Barford House. It's likely that the Grahams' young son, Alastair Graham, was Waugh's lover during their time together at Oxford. Today scholars believe that Alastair was the model for Sebastian Flyte in Waugh's most famous book, "Brideshead Revisited." Between January 1924 and August 1932 Waugh stayed at Barford 21 times and wrote part of "Decline and Fall" at the House.
