  • Earlier Houses: The old 12th century Banff Castle was mostly demolished in the 18th century; it's likely that elements of the old castle were incorporated into the current house. King Edward I of England stayed at the old Banff Castle in 1296 and again in 1298, after defeating William Wallace at the Battle of Falkirk. The remains of the old castle are a scheduled ancient monument.
