Earlier Houses: There were three earlier houses on, or near, the site of the current 19th century house: A 1608 house by William Stewart, which was replaced in 1675; this house was, in turn, replaced in the mid-18th century by the third house. All of these houses were built by members of the Stewart family. The focus of this record is the fourth (19th century Tudor Revival style) house, built for Hugh Montgomery.
