House & Family History: After the death of the Duke of Connaught in 1942 the Crown Estate turned Bagshot over to the British Army for use as the WRAC staff college. At the end of World War II George VI offered the house to the Royal Army Chaplains' Department, who used Bagshot as a church house and chaplains' depot until 1947. Bagshot Park was leased to Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, in 1997 for use as his country house. Between 1997 and 1999, at an estimated cost of £2.98 million, the house was renovated and restored for the Earl of Wessex and his new wife.
