The house from a circa 1902 postcard
House & Family History: During World War I the house served as a convalescent home for Belgian army officers. After the war Ashdown Park was sold to the Order of the Sisters of Notre Dame, who operated a Catholic convent here from 1920 until 1971. Between 1974 and 1992 Ashdown Park was owned by Barclays Bank, who used the house as a management training center. In 1993 Ashdown was sold and converted into a luxury hotel.
Garden & Outbuildings: The house today is set in 186 acres of landscaped grounds in the heart of the Ashdown Forest, where Winnie-the-Pooh lived.
Chapel & Church: In 1924 a large 14th century Gothic style chapel, The Church of Our Lady and St. Richard, was built for the convent.
