Ashbrooke Hall (Corby Hall)

    House & Family History: The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) purchased Ashbrooke in 1932 and converted it into a retreat house for men that they named Corby Hall, after Ralph Corby, a Jesuit martyr hanged in London following a preliminary trial in Sunderland. The Jesuits vacated Ashbrooke Hall in 1973; the House was demolished in 1976.

    Comments: Ashbrooke is considered one of the greatest houses of Sunderland.
