House & Family History: Commissioned by Sir Andrew Noble, Ardkinglas was built in the early 20th century of green granite topped with Caithness slate. The house was designed by Robert Lorimer, one of Scotland's leading architects, and is one of only four houses he designed. Lorimer designed everything, right down to the electrical fittings and door furniture, all of which are still in place today. He was allowed a free hand, and the result is a large baronial style mansion of over 80 rooms set in its own gardens.
