House & Family History: In the early 19th century Alvaston was known as The Grove and was the seat of a Quaker banker and farmer by the name of Crousdon Tunstall; later in the century it was purchased and rebuilt by Frances Massey. In 1896 the House was acquired by a wealthy industrialist who converted it into a grand country house and renamed it Alvaston Hall. In 1972 the House was sold and converted into a hotel.
