Allestree Hall

  • Built / Designed For: Bache Thornhill

House & Family History: Allestree was started in 1795 for Bache Thornill, by James Wyatt. In 1805 the Estate was sold, with the House unfinished, to John Charles Giradot. Today the former Park is now a golf course and part of the Servants' Wing of the House is occupied by the golf club. Allestree was recently proposed as the site for a natural history museum, but this plan had to be discarded when it was discovered that the House could not have supported this use. Allestree's owner, Derby City Council, is seeking a sympathetic new owner.
