House & Family History: Allerton Priory is a large house of brown brickwork laced with blue bands and stone dressings by Alfred Waterhouse. The House is in a 13th century Gothic style and was built for John Grant Morris, a local mine owner. After it ceased being a private residence Allerton Priory was used for years as a school and an old peoples' home; it is today offices.
Comments: John Martin Robinson considers Allerton Priory to be "one of Waterhouse's best surviving houses."
