Abington Park (Abington Abbey)

  • House & Family History: Abington is at its core a 15th century manor house. The house was once the home of Shakespeare's granddaughter, Elizabeth Bernard, who is buried in the nearby church. Lady Wantage (daughter of Lord Overstone) donated the Abbey and the surrounding park to the people of Northampton for use as a pleasure ground. The Abbey was in use previously as an insane asylum and is today a museum of Victorian life.
