10 Carlton House Terrace

  • House & Family History: Noted for its grand, domed staircase hall, No. 10 Carlton House Terrace was for many years the London home of the White Ridley family (whose country seat is Blagdon Hall in Northumberland). Since 1998 No. 10 has been the home of the British Academy, who, in March 2010, took over the lease of No. 11 after the departure of its tenant, the Foreign Press Association. The Academy raised £2.75 million to renovate and restore the public rooms in No. 11 and link them to No. 10; the grand new space opened in January 2011. Between 1856 and 1875 No. 11 was the home of Prime Minister William Gladstone.
