Hayward practiced with Thomas Roger Smith and was the district surveyor for St. George, Bloomsbury, St. Giles-in-the-Fields, and St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Hayward's son, Arthur Baldwin Hayward, succeeded him in his practice.
