House & Family History: Downing Hall was the seat of the 18th century antiquarian and naturalist Thomas Pennant (1726-98), best known for his books: "Tours in Wales," published in 1778 and 1781; and his 22-volume set "Outlines of the Globe," published 1798-1800.
