House & Family History: The portico and other materials from Wricklemarsh Hall, which was demolished by John Cator, were reused by Cator when he built Beckenham Place. John Cator (1728-1806) was a wealthy timber merchant and landowner who was responsible for the layout of much of the areas around Blackheath. Beckenham Place was much admired by Samuel Johnson.
