House & Family History: Built in the 17th century as a merchant's townhouse, the house is today a museum that celebrates William Wilberforce, who was born here in 1759. Wilberforce was an MP, social reformer, and abolitionist who is most noted for his 1807 act of parliament that abolished the slave trade in the British Empire.
