    House & Family History: Famous for its Italianate Clock Tower, Widmerpool is a late 19th century Gothic style house of Bath and Clipsham stone. The House was a private home until the 1950s, when the Estate was broken up and sold off in parcels. In the late 20th century Widmerpool became the headquarters of The Automobile Association Patrol Service Training School, known as The AA Academy. Between 2008 and 2010 Widmerpool Hall underwent extensive renovation and was converted into nine flats. At the same time, 11 mews style houses and four detached houses were created in the grounds. Widmerpool is the surname of one of the central characters (a rather unpleasant one) in Anthony Powell's magisterial 12-volume novel, "A Dance to the Music of Time."
