House & Family History: Urquhart was once one of the largest castles in Scotland. On the death in 1911 of Caroline, Dowager Countess of Seafield, the last private owner of the Castle, Urquhart was left to the nation.
House Replaced By: It's possible that there was an earlier 12th century castle on, or near, the site of the current ruins.
