Turvey House (Turvey Abbey) (Turvey Old Hall)

  • Earlier Houses: There was earlier house called Turvey Abbey, or Turvey Old Hall (it's not clear if these were two separate houses or one house with two names), located on, or near, the site of the current house.

House & Family History: The architectural historian Roger White has suggested that John Nash redesigned Turvey House in the early 19th century, leaving it with its current appearance (there are no known architectural records for the house). White believes that Turvey shares similarities with Nash's designs, inside and out, for Buckingham Palace. Turvey is noted today for its domed and top-lit staircase hall.
