Earlier Houses: An 1196 monastery was converted into a private house in the 16th century.
House & Family History: The 1196 monastery was converted to a country house after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. Torre Abbey was remodeled for the Cary family between 1941 and 1943. Torbay Borough Council purchased the House in 1930 for use as an art gallery.
