Spetisbury House (Spettisbury House) (St. Monica's Priory)

  • House & Family History: In 1800 Spetisbury was acquired by an exiled community of Augustinian nuns from Louvain, canonesses regular of the Windesheim Congregation. The nuns ran a school here until 1861, when they sold the House to a community of Bridgettines from Lisbon. When the Bridgettines vacated in 1887 the Estate was taken over by the Canons Regular at Bodmin, who sold it in 1907 to a refugee community of Ursuline nuns from Mortain in Normandy. In 1926 the Ursulines sold Spetisbury to a contractor, who demolished it for the materials 1927.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The burial ground was excluded from the 1926 sale and survives as a garden.
