Ripley Castle

  • Earlier Houses: There was an earlier Medieval house on, or near, the site of the current house.

    House & Family History: James VI of Scotland stayed at Ripley Castle in 1603 on his way to London to be crowned as James I of England.

    Collections: Louis-François Roubiliac's "Sir Isaac Ware" was sold at Sotheby's in 1987 to the Detroit Institute of Arts for £265,000.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The grounds are home to the National Hyacinth Collection. The village of Ripley, considered a model estate village, is located on the doorstep of the castle.
