Earlier Houses: Lugar's house was the third on the site.
Built / Designed For: Walter Wilkins, later Walter de Winton.
House & Family History: Walter Wilkins built the grand Maesllwch Castle with the fortune he'd made in India. His architect, Robert Lugar, appears to have been influenced in the design by Nash's Ravensworth Castle of 1808 in County Durham. Maesllwch had a variety of interior styles: Gothic, Norman, and Regency. The Entrance Hall was a glass-roofed atrium. The majority of Maesllwch was demolished in 1951, leaving the service wing and the Eastern Towers standing.
