House of the Binns

  • Earlier Houses: The current house sits on the foundations of older buildings on the site.

    House & Family History: The House of the Binns has been the home of the Dalyell family since 1612. General Tam Dalyell formed the Royal Scots Greys Regiment at the House in 1681. In 1944 Eleanor Dalyell donated the Binns to the National Trust for Scotland.

    Comments: The Royal Scots Greys Regiment, led by General Tam Dalyell, was so named for the color of their uniforms.
