Houghton Hall

  • House & Family History: For much of the 20th century Houghton Hall served as a public institution: first as the Houghton Social Club, and then as the Houghton branch of the YMCA, a purpose it served until 1998. In 1999 the house was abandoned and listed on the English Heritage Buildings at Risk Register. In 2001 Houghton was purchased by the Shipman family, who restored it as a private home.
