Hill of Tarvit (Wemyss Hall)

  • House & Family History: In 1906 Sir Robert Lorimer rebuilt Hill of Tarvit for F.B. Sharp, a Dundee industrialist (the house has important Edwardian interiors). Miss E.C. Sharp bequeathed the house, together with 1,243 acres, to the National Trust for Scotland in 1949 (the Trust owns 489 acres today). The upper floor of the house was used as a Marie Curie Foundation facility until 1977.

    Collections: The collection includes French, Chippendale-style and vernacular furniture, as well as Dutch paintings, Flemish tapestries, and Chinese porcelain and bronzes.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: The formal gardens were designed by Lorimer and inlcude a famous Hickory golf course.
