Built / Designed For: Rebuilt for William Mills

House & Family History: The Mills family purchased the Hazel Estate in the early 18th century; in 1730 William Mills built the main block of the current house, incorporating a fragment of the earlier 17th century house (most of which was demolished ante 1695) in the back as a service wing. Hazel is particularly notable for the large sculptures of griffins and lions that punctuate its roofline. The Staircase has four plaster reliefs of particularly high quality.
